Marie-Gabrielle Rotie created choreography for the main cast Alexander Skarsgard, Anya Taylor Joy and Willem Dafoe in various specific scenes, including the Berserker Dance around a fire, the fools movement inside the court house, the slave dances in the woods.
She worked very closely with the Director Robert Eggers who did meticulous research into Viking Culture. As no actual specific dance exists from the period, the movement arose from research into Nordic legend, icons and visual images. Marie-Gabrielle drew upon her extensive experience of lecturing on shamanism, folklore and mythology to craft a suitable movement language and of course draws also upon her expertise in Butoh.
