Tollund Man
Inspired by the mummified remains of the famous prehistoric peat bog 'Tollund Man' in the museum in Silkeborg the work was created during a two month residency and performed by ten Denmark based Dancers and reflects upon bodies between suspension, animation and death. The work blends approaches from live art/performance art with Rotie's distincting approach to choreography that foregrounds the minimal, the scupltural and the visceral to create intensifications of space. One woman sculpts forms from clay and her actions echo the sculpting to life of the body in the earth - the spirit of the Tollund Man. Other bodies, evolve from death to life, and then return again to the earth, memories and traces of the mummified body, forever suspended in time.
